EASTLAND – Bettie Jo Hood, 81, of Eastland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 09, 2010 at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 11th at the Edwards Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dwight Daniel, Christopher Hood, Adrian Mitchell and Chad Allman.
Mrs. Hood was born on September 25, 1929 in Sweetwater, Texas to Lon Anthony Horn and Ellen Rose Webb Horn. She married Evans Carrol Hood on July 21, 1950 in Fort Worth. She received her Master of Science Degree on May 24, 1964 at East Texas State University. Bettie devoted 50 years to education. She was a teacher at the Odessa, Elkhart and Palestine Independent School Districts. She retired as an Educational Diagnostician for, the East-End Special Education Co-Op, Gorman, Texas.
Bettie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a nurturer of not only her family, but every child she came in contact with. She will be remembered and loved by many very dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Evans Hood, her parents Lon and Ellen Horn, 3 sisters, Edith Lorraine Horn Freeson of Grand Prairie, Texas Margie Lou Horn Warren of Comfort, Texas and twin Billie Ann Horn Mitchell of Temecula, California.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Marc Carrol and Sandy Hood of Lake Leon; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryne Mitchell and Gary Thomas of Palestine; three grandchildren, Christopher Carrol Hood of Eastland, Allyson Ann Mitchell and Adrian Marvin Mitchell, both of Palestine; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hood of Eastland, Mason, Brody, and Madison Mitchell of Palestine and nephews, Jerry Lon Horn of Grand Prairie, David Wayne Warren of Midland, John, Mike and Chuck Mitchell of Temecula California, nieces Ellen Mitchell Wilcox of Weed, California and Pattie Mitchell Swindell of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
