Bill Mitchell, age 80 of Strawn, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 27th, at First Baptist Church of Strawn with Rev. Charles West officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Gordon Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 26th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Morehart Funeral Chapel of Strawn.
Billy Earl Mitchell was born on April 10, 1930 in Stephens County, Texas to parents, Ivan Sterl Mitchell and Lora Sides Mitchell. From a young age, Bill enjoyed the life of a cowboy, whether it be riding horses, roping or simply being outdoors. He graduated from Strawn High School in 1948 and married Pauline Glanton on September 11, 1948. Bill and Pauline continued to make their home in Palo Pinto County, where Bill worked as the ranch foreman of the Double Gates Ranch for over 62 years. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Strawn. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Mitchell Sr.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline Mitchell of the home; one daughter, Connie Mitchell of Breckenridge; one son, Randy Mitchell and wife, Pat of Breckenridge; four grandchildren, Kimberly Bryant and husband, James of Arlington, Kristi Powell of Fort Worth, Jennifer Mitchell and Kody Mitchell, both of Breckenridge; two great grandchildren, Kailee Powell and Jaeden Powell, both of Fort Worth and one brother, Charles Mitchell and wife, Mary of Kilgore.
