Christmas Eve in the area started out with some snow flurries and the anticipation of many to see their first white Christmas in Texas. Then it built up to some serious snow causing accidents and traffic nightmares on I-20 at the most traveled time of the year. I-20 was impassable much of Christmas Eve due to wrecks caused by the icy conditions stranding travelers. Trying to detour around I-20 was causing the same problems with hilly roads becoming too icy to negotiate. The low temperatures kept the white stuff lingering around for the whole weekend, with travel finally starting to move on Christmas day. 5″ of snow was reported in Eastland County.
