CISCO, Texas – Cisco College will partner with TBC OnCourse, a division of Texas Book Company, to offer students access to a fully functional virtual bookstore beginning Aug. 2.
In addition to providing a convenient option for students, the virtual bookstore meets the requirements of Section 133 of the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA). A key aspect of the HEOA is the requirement for institutions to provide textbook information as a part of its online or printed schedule of classes. The purpose of this provision is to help college students determine what their textbook costs will be before registration, and to know which version of textbooks professors will be using. Equipped with ISBN numbers and published prices, students can then make more informed decisions about their class schedules and easily purchase the correct text for their courses.
“We understand textbook costs are a major concern to students, not just at Cisco, but across the nation. At Texas Book Company, we believe a good, solid education is fundamental for a successful future. In order to achieve this, students need to have access to the correct course materials and textbooks for their courses at a fair price. TBC OnCourse allows institutions to not just meet governmental requirements, but to assist students with the expenses associated with education by offering a low cost used book alternative when available.” said Brent Dyer, President of Texas Book Company.
TBC OnCourse is a fully functional virtual bookstore with a course driven interface, permitting students to search by course and view the author, title, ISBN and pricing information required for full compliance with HEOA legislation. Students may then order their textbooks and pay by credit card or use financial aid. Course materials are shipped the same day when orders are received prior to 2 p.m. Students also have the option at any time during the year, to sell their books back to further reduce their textbook costs.
Stan Key, director of bookstore operations at Cisco College states, “We are really excited about being able to provide a customized online bookstore to our students. Students now have more purchasing flexibility and Cisco College administration is proud to meet the new HEOA regulations on time. TBC OnCourse is providing us with the means to that end. “
