Darlene Williams - Eastland

Williams, DarleneDarlene Williams, age 63, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 PM at New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Eastland City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, November 6th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the family residence at 1701 W. Main Street in Eastland.

Darlene Inez Dodrill was born on March 9, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Richard and Mildred (Webber) Dodrill. She attended Portersville High School in California. She married Joseph Daniel Williams on March 18, 1961 in Vancouver, Washington. They were blessed with six children. Darlene and Daniel moved to Eastland from Hayward, California in 1962. They made the long trip in a very nice 1946 Ford. Darlene and Daniel not only owned rental properties but they would travel out west to pick cherries and apples. In 1975 Darlene was the treasurer for the Migrant Workers of America. The traveling the family did for work lead to many great family adventures and memories they will always treasure. They will also always treasure how special she made Christmas at her home with her Very Large family. Her walking around in her Santa hat trash bag in hand……… Church was a very important part of Darlene’s life. She was blessed to attend through the years and be part of the UPC Church in Eastland, New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Cisco and Abundant Life Impact Ministries in Gorman. She was involved in many ministries including Music, Sunday school, Bible studies, being a hostess, outreach, fundraising and fellowship. Darlene was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter the task.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mildred Dodrill; brother, David Dodrill; and sister, Delphia Pitts.

She is survived by her husband of over forty eight years, Daniel Williams; her two sons, Sam Williams and his wife Dee of Eastland, Jeff Williams and his wife Clara of Corpus Christi; her four daughters, Cheryl Duvall and her husband Kevin of White Settlement, Becky Flanary and her husband Larry of Gorman, Lavonna Prince and her husband Brett of Mexia and Lisa Hart and her husband Jonathan of Athens; her three brothers, Dweilyn Dodrill of Olden, Daniel Dodrill of Tulsa, OK, Richard Dodrill of Cushing, OK, and Reginald Dodrill of Sacramento, CA; her four sisters, Dardeena Peterson and Christine Dodrill of Oklahoma, and Betty Difintorium and Opal Viduya of Sacramento, CA; twenty six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
