Donald V. Estes, 95, of Gorman, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Gorman. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Eastland with Lyndell Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, 6~8 P.M.
Mr. Estes was born on January 15, 1915 in Topeka, Kansas to Cleveland and Estella Estes. He started a career in Auctioneering at age 17. Donald came to Texas in 1939 and worked for Ross Bros. Horse and Mule Co. of Fort Worth.
Donald moved to San Angelo in 1944 working for Armour Meat Co. as a buyer. Buying the Midland Livestock Auction Co. in 1947, he built a new auction which opened in May 1948.
Donald married Hazel Oglesby on July 12, 1947 in Sterling City, Texas. They moved to Desdemona in the late 50’s. There he started ranching raising Angus Cattle and later dairy goats. Donald moved to Gorman Nursing Home in 2006 where he lived the remainder of his life.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, on September 11, 2001. Donald is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stevie & Linda Estes of Sanger; grandsons, Steven Estes of Cisco and Lewis Reynolds of Denton; granddaughter, Lorie Reynolds of Sanger; and 2 great-grandsons, Alec and Kaden of Sanger.
