Evelyn Marie Kirk, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7th at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Rev. Jack Ridlehoover officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born June 9, 1928 in Lone Oak, Texas to John and Irene Ross. She lived in Lone Oak and later in Abilene where she graduated from Abilene High School and Hardin Simmons University. She married Truman Price Kirk on February 14, 1948 in Abilene. An elementary school teacher for 37 years, Evelyn taught in Austin, Odessa, Abilene and Cisco. After her retirement, she was a guest columnist for the Abilene Reporter-News, Waco Tribune Herald, and other publications. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cisco and Delta Kappa Gamma educators society.
Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Truman; brother, Wilson Ross; and sisters, Wynona Troup and Mary Ross. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Kendall and Kathy Kirk of Garland, TX, and Kevin and Lauren Kirk of Waco, TX; two daughters, Karen and husband Larry Flint of Arlington, TX, and Kaylene Carmack of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, Bryan Ross of San Angelo, TX and Winston Ross of Plano, TX; sister, Rutha Van Dusen of Mesquite, TX; 13 grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren, Andrew and Jennifer Kirk; Stephanie and Erin Flint; Justin, Krystal, Dayna Carmack and Taylor Ard; Lindsey, Bethany and Aubrey Kirk; and five great-grandchildren.
