Gordon Pee Wee Football Team Advances To State

On Saturday, October 23, Gordon faced Strawn for the second time in the season of 3rd and 4th grade Six Man Pee Wee action. This game however had something on the line. The winner of this game would advance to the State Title game and represent the North Division in the Texas Six Man Pee Wee Assoc. The Gordon Longhorns came into the game undefeated and Strawn only had one loss and that was to Gordon in a thrilling triple overtime game just two weeks prior to this one. As the teams took the field in Rising Star it was raining, windy and just a little bit cold. Gordon took the ball first and was stopped by the Strawn defense after four plays. The Strawn offense took the field and took the ball down to the two yard line where Gordon had and outstanding defensive stand and took over on downs. The quarter ended and the teams changed sides it was 1st and 15 from Gordon’s own 7 yard line. After a penalty which pushed the Longhorns back to the 2 yard line, the only score of the game happened. Jarrett Wigington took the hand off from Zane Allen and scampered 78 yards for a touchdown. Chase Crider added the extra point making the score Gordon 8 and Strawn 0

In the 2nd half Strawn had its chances to even the score but was unable to get past the swarming Gordon defense. Gordon had another goal line stand from the 3 yard line as Jarrett Wigington caused Tanner Hodgkins to fumble the ball which was recovered by Colt Mallory. As time ran out the Gordon Longhorns won becoming the Texas Six Man Pee Wee North Champion and will advance to the State title game on Oct 30 at noon in Zephyr to face the South division champion Cherokee.
