Liquor Drive Misses the Bar

Organizers of the petition drive  in support of a local option election to legalize alcohol sales in Eastland County came up short of the signatures required to get the measure on the November ballot.

A meeting at Hardin’s Barbecue Friday revealed that the petition for a local option election to legalize alcohol failed to gather enough signatures. Pictured are Terry Hardin & Larry Cottle.

According to June Hicks, one of the effort’s organizers, since the required number of signatures was not obtained, the petitions will not be submitted and the names of those who signed the petition will not be made public.

The group, Spirits For Eastland County, now plans to go forward with acquiring enough signatures for the next eligible election date. Members of the group who were instrumental in gathering signatures were June Hicks, Norman Hardin, Terry Hardin, Larry Cottle and the late Saul Pullman.
