Machacek Bakery & Market Open

Lovera’s in Strawn was known for it’s meat market, groceries, quaint antique fixtures and it’s owner, Dolly.  Dolly sold the store which was part of her family for 93 years,  so she could retire.  For the past four years it has been known as Strawn Market.  Just before it completely shut down, new owners Tina Thomas and Tammie Schraeder came in from Euless to rescue the area’s only grocery store.

Machacek Bakery & Market opened this past Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m.   Machacek’s (pronounced Ma-ha’-chek) will have it’s Grand Opening Saturday, October 30th with free hot dogs, Hunt Brothers handing out  free slices of pizza and other give aways.

Tina brings not only the family name to the store, but her grandmother’s authentic Czech Kolaches recipe. Tina and Tammie offer a well stocked, reasonably priced grocery store complete with fresh produce.  Machacek has a well stocked baking section with items like spices, seasonings, and olive oil. The meat market with it’s fresh cut and cut-to-order meats, which has always been a draw to the store, will continue with the familiar face of Linda Spraggins behind the counter.  Added to the package is the bakery where kolaches are their specialty but not the only thing they do. Machacek’s will offer cakes, scones, breads, biscotti, and desserts. They will continue to offer Hunt Brothers Pizza including a breakfast pizza.   Tina says they will also be offering what she calls a “Lighter Lunch Menu”.  Soup, salad and sandwich, meal-of-the-day will be offered.  Another service Machacek’s will add is delivery and take-out meals.  Call in advance and tell them how many you are feeding and they will cook up a home style meal ready to pick up or deliver.

Machacek Bakery started as an online bakery.  It has been chosen to be featured on the Cooking Channel’s “Foodcrafters” show tentatively set to air in January, 2011.
