Mary Louise Fitzgerald of Abilene

Mary Louise Fitzgerald, 97, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 in Eastland. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9th, at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with burial to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Eris Ritchie will officiate the service. Visitation is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.

Louise was born in Malone, Texas, October 15, 1912, but raised in Weatherford where she graduated from high school in 1929. She lived in Abilene from 1949 to 1982, where her late husband, D. F. Fitzgerald, was a long-time elementary school principal in AISD. Since that time, Louise has lived in the Eastland area. She has always been an active member of her church, doing much volunteer work there. In Abilene, she was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She had a love for flowers and gardening and also enjoyed sewing and knitting. An avid reader, Louise also loved entertaining her friends and family.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sons – 3 baby Fitzgeralds and Mac Lee, three sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Batson and husband, Don of Fayetteville, AR, Jean Anderson of Cisco, TX, and Loudel Winkles and husband, Carlton, also of Cisco; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Cheatham and husband, Carl of Clyde, TX; eleven grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
