Melvin Ray Carey

EASTLAND – Melvin Ray Carey was born to Melvin Lane Carey and Angie Ruth Brown on February 22, 1934 in Gunsight, Texas. He went to see his Lord and Savior on March 28, 2010. Ray was a member of the East Side Baptist Church in Cisco and was a long-time contract oil field pumper and rancher. He attended school in Cisco and Eastland. Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leta Fern Lindsey, and a sister, Peggy Lindsey.

He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Arther and husband Phillip of Eastland; 2 sons, Rick Carey of Eastland and Tony Carey and wife Jackie of Eastland; 3 granddaughters, Tish Weaver & husband Joe of Eastland, Kalli Stacy & husband Brad of Carbon and Tifni Helms & husband Cory of Lubbock; 2 sisters, Barbara Smith of Sanderson and Kay Bryant of Cisco. He was a proud great-grandfather to his 6 great-grandchildren, Deric Stacy, Braxton Weaver, Hailee Stacy, Hannah Weaver, Abby Weaver and Cayden Helms. He has 21 nieces and nephews, 50 great-nieces and great-nephews and 38 great-great-nieces and nephews. Ray was a true friend to many and leaves behind a special friend and sister-in-law, Wynelle Maston. Ray will be sorely missed by a host of family and friends.

Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the River of Life Church in Eastland with Rev. Jerry Maston officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
