Raymond Hounshell, 92, of Cisco passed away February 3, 2010, in Eastland. Services will be Friday at 2:00 PM in the Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Gary Hounshell. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mr. Hounshell, better known as “Ray,” was born October 2, 1917, in Brown County, Texas, to Lafayette and Blanche (Brown) Hounshell. He attended school at Burkett and Cross Cut, and served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. On May 8, 1943, he and Helen Elizabeth Tapke were married in Dodge City, Kansas. They have celebrated 66 anniversaries together.
For many years Ray was self-employed as a mechanic in the Oil and Gas Exploration Industry.
He was a “man of few words”. He loved working with his horses, and more than anything else, he loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Riffle Association. He spent many hours in his later life visiting with people all over the world on his computer.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Cisco; daughter, Sheila Rae of Austin, sons, William and wife, Sarah, of Cisco, and David Allen and wife, Nancy, of Pittsburg, PA; brothers, Elmer of Lake Brownwood and Charlie of Cisco; sister, Evelyn Pitts and husband, Richard, of Alamogordo, NM. A brother, J. W. and sister, Sarah McCowan, preceded Ray in death.
Nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family asked that memorials be made to the charity of choice.
