DALLAS - Richard "Dick" Sparks, age 79, passed away on January 23, 2010 in Dallas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.
Richard Edgar Sparks was born on July 18, 1930 in Eastland, Texas, the youngest child of J. Frank Sparks and Linnie Dougherty. He grew up in a loving family with brothers Joe, Ben Sparks and sister Pat Butler. He made life-long friends at Eastland High School, graduating in 1947. In 1949 Dick married the love of his life, Audrey Fay Brown, and was happily married for 49 years. He retired from Sun Oil Co. in 1987 and became an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his brother, Joe Sparks.
His life is celebrated by daughter Shari and husband Wayne Bennett; son Richard F. Sparks; three grandchildren: Stacy Smith and husband Scott, Jay Bennett and wife Meghann, Terry Bennett and Cindy Murray; his five great-grandchildren: Bennett Smith, Audrey Smith, Neva Smith, Murray Bennett and Harrison Bennett; and his brother Ben Sparks and wife Margaret and his sister Pat Sparks Butler, numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, he remained the sweetest man with a kind and gentle disposition. The family gives special thanks to the caregivers at Avalon Residential Care and Vitas Hospice.
