Rolan "Red" Cottle of Briggs

Rolan “Red” Cottle, 86 of Briggs, formerly of Rochelle , Texas passed away Tuesday December 22, 2009 at Homestead Nursing Center in Cisco, Texas.  Graveside services   will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Mt. Mariah in Briggs at 2:00 PM under the direction of Edgar Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas.

Mr. Cottle was born March 07, 1923 to  Orvel and Cynthia Cottle of  Rochelle.  He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Marines for six and one half years and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.  He was a civil servant for thirty-six years at Ft. Hood and  was a  member of the Masons and Eastern Star for forty-nine years.

He married Barbara Stiles of Briggs on July 30, 1950. Together they were ranchers for fifty-nine years.

They have four children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Cottle of Briggs, son, Jimmy Dale Cottle of Salado, daughters, Rebecca Bonnet of Cisco and her husband Zukie, Roberta Whitley of Salado and husband T.P. and son Billy Jack Cottle of Blanket and wife Mary and two brothers, Paul and Henry George Cottle and two sisters, Odessa Childress and Ruth Eckard. Grandchildren, Rolan Bonnet and his wife Christy of Cisco, Jennifer Hoffman and her husband David of Abilene, Kelly Gidley and husband Tommy of Salado and james Whitley and his wife Erin of Lott and Sherry De Ann Orange of Belton and great grandchildren, Robert Hamilton of Cisco, Julie and Brittany Hoffman of Abilene, J.T. and Amber Gidley of Salado, Maddie Whitley of Lott and David Wayne and Brittany Orange of Belton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
