Rolando Pena, Sr.

Rolando Pena, Sr., 81, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at a local nursing
center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Elliott-Hamil
Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Rev. Sam Earp officiated. Jonathon Pena,
Scott Pena, Jason Pena, and Jim Chapman served as pallbearers.

Mr. Pena was born November 16, 1927 to Flora Dora (Rosales) and Santiago
Pena in Laredo, Texas. He married Betty Maria Piehler. Rolando honorably
served his country for 21 years during WW II in the Philippines, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. They moved from Monterey, California in 1967 to Abilene, Texas. Upon retirement from the military, he worked for McKesson Pharmaceuticals for a number of years. Prior to final retirement, he worked for OSI. Rolando was a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Margrieta Pena.
Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Pena of Abilene; two sons, Fred Pena and
wife, Judy and Rolando “Rollie” Pena, Jr. and wife, Darlene, all of Abilene; a
daughter, Irene Fitzgerald and husband, Mac, of Big Spring; two brothers, Santiago Pena, Jr. and Roger Pena, both of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Irma Pena of Corpus Christi, Irene Escobedo of Plano, and Margo Smith of Ranger; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
