Rowena Lucile Wilson, age 86, of Gorman, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Gorman.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Gorman Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was born January 1, 1924 in South English, Iowa to Clarence Sheets and Lucile Mullencamp Sheets. She graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree and later got her masters degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown.
She married Luther Ross Wilson on December 23, 1949 in Gorman.
Mrs. Wilson taught at Daniel Baker College in Brownwood for two years. She then started teaching in the Gorman Schools and taught there for 41 years. She was very proud of her UIL students and the many state contests they attended. She was a 53 year member of the Gorman United Methodist Church and a 50 plus years member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Ross Wilson of Gorman; nephew and niece, Joe Bob and Jerrie Sherrod of Llano; great-nephew, Joe David Sherrod of Spicewood and great-niece, Cathy Klafehn of Flower Mound and a host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
