Suzie (Sue) Lorene Brooks formerly of Cisco

Suzie (Sue) Lorene Brooks of Waco, formerly of Cisco, passed away on September 20, 2010, at the age of 96. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 23 at 2:00 P.M. at Moran Cemetery in Moran, TX. Visitation will be at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco on Thursday, September 23 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.

Susie Lorene Menton was born on May 18, 1914, in Gause, TX, to Jake David and Betty (Springer) Menton. She married Vance Courtney Brooks of Moran on July 18, 1936. They lived in several states following the oil fields. In each place they lived she was well known for being a wonderful cook and an excellent seamstress.

When Vance retired in 1961, they moved to Moran and then to Cisco. She was active in the Baptist Church, Cisco Garden Club, and later in ABWA where she was an ABWA Woman of the Year. In 1964 she attended Buddy Benz School of Floral Design in Houston and returned to Cisco and worked at Polly’s in Breckenridge and Philpott’s in Cisco. She later moved to Irving to work as a floral designer. She returned to Cisco to open and operate Sue’s Floral.

She retired in the early 1980’s and moved to Ennis to be near her sisters, Louise (Dutch)Tuft and Lillie Belle Pyle, her brother, Charles (Pete) Menton and her sister-in-law, Maebelle Menton. She and her sisters loved to play bingo, fish on Cedar Creek Lake and go shopping in Dallas.

She moved to Quality Care of Waco long-term care facility in 1995, where she was very active in all Quality Care activities. She loved playing bingo, 42 and going on shopping trips and other outings. She was on Quality Care’s wheelchair volleyball team, was in the choir, and served on the Resident’s Council.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Vance, three sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Diann Harris and husband, Charles of Waco; grandchildren, Don Harris and wife Sarah of Arlington and Cheryl Bloom and husband Darrin of Pflugerville; five beautiful great-grandchildren, Victoria and Meredith Harris and Mackenzie, Peyton and Derek Bloom; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Quality Care of Waco and Providence Hospice for their loving care.

Honorary pallbearers are Don Harris, Darrin Bloom, Bob Menton, Marcus Menton, H.B. Smith, Bryant Edwards and Gary Harris.
