Tuesday, August 31, The Open Door had their ribbon cutting and showed off their facilities. The grand opening crowd showed the support for the facility as it was attended by many from all over Eastland County and some from outside the county. Brookshire’s donated the flowers as well as the food served and Marcia’s Creation in Cisco donated and delivered cake and balloons. Door prizes donated were a massage by Vicky Posey, dinner for two at Mexico City Cafe, and a bassinet by Wal-Mart.
According to their Mission Statement, The Open Door is a Pregnancy and Family Resource Center, which is financed by Eastland County Residents and faith-based grans, for those struggling with unplanned pregnancies or under financial strain. This organization will help parents provide for the needs of their children through classes, mentoring, and supplies. This will also include a youth resource center providing a a safe environment for mentoring and education programming for life skills.
The Open Door offers needed services to the area including peer counseling, nutrition classes, life skills, a GED program, cooking classes, pregnancy tests, limited ultrasound, parenting classes and many other services. All services are offered free and kept confidential. Ultrasound scans are a new service for The Open Door. They did 62 ultrasound scans during their training period, which ended about three weeks ago, and have done 25 scans since the training.

The Open Door is open Monday through Wednesday 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. It is located at 1906 Hwy 206 in Cisco and you can reach them at 254-442-3000.
